Crunchy Apple Chips

November 21, 2013

These…are amazing. Chris and I bought a bunch of apples and were thinking about how to use them up. He came up with the idea of crunchy apple chips. I was skeptical they would actually become crispy in the oven, but these turned out like potato chips, but with flavors of fall – apples and cinnamon.

The recipe I used as a guide is from Sally’s Baking Addiction. The baking time is long, 2 to 2.5 hours and at low heat (200 degrees). I found the extra 30min of baking really makes a difference in achieving the crispy texture. I tested them after two hours, and the texture was more like dehydrated apples. By 2.5 hours, they were crispy like chips. Sally also recommends letting them cool in the oven for an additional hour, but I started eating mine right away and there were none left after an hour. I’m lucky I had enough for the photo, actually!

Two kitchen tools that make this recipe a breeze are an apple corer and a mandoline slicer.
